CANDID
School Project Fall 2023 | Industry of Packaging Professional Scholarship Award Winner
Packaging | Branding | Interdisciplinary Collaboration
The goal of this Collaborative Studio was to choose a product to reimagine the user experience for, and work together in groups to create a new packaging experience. Our group chose to study over the counter vaginal yeast infection kits.
Today’s treatments are not designed with the end user experience in mind. They do not enhance feelings of support or education for both first time and experienced users. Our product, Candid, strives to support and uplift people suffering from yeast infections. This kit provides a much more intuitive and straightforward experience in targeting and treating yeast infections.
This project was completed in a collaborative studio with classmates Elise Johnson (Communication Design), Evan Pugh (Communication Design) , and Katherine Bodenschatz (Industrial Design).
THE PROBLEM
Yeast infections are among one of the most common vaginal infections. However, most over the counter treatments do not respect the dignity of the user. When browsing treatment options, loud and confusing graphics overwhelm the consumer due to the lack of a clear hierarchy. Upon opening the package, contents are placed without consideration for sterility and organization, hindering the treatment process.
THE SOLUTION
Candid strives to change the industry standard, putting empathy and the user experience at the forefront of the design to provide a more intuitive and enjoyable treatment process. The design features soft exterior graphics and a bold dignified interior. This contrast allows Candid to be both approachable on the shelf, while instilling confidence in the user through clear instructions and supportive graphics. Our design creates a curated moment, allowing the user's treatment to feel like a form of self care.
To get a feel for the user experience, we purchased two over the counter yeast infection treatment options and unboxed them. This helped our team establish the pain points in the unboxing experience and find aspects to consider moving forward.
